YGC Junior 10 kicked off with Zonal level evaluations.

Yarl Geek challenge Junior is an annual innovation technology competition organized by Yarl IT Hub jointly with Northern Province Educational department for school students who are enthusiastic about technology and innovation. This year, the competition kicked off for the 10th consecutive year marking a decade for the platform created for school students.

The launch

Due to the pandemic, YGC10 Junior is being run online for the second time. YGC Junior- Season 10 was officially launched on March 10 with an announcement regarding workshops that helps students to prepare for the competition. An online session was held on 13th of March through zoom for students to introduce YGC Junior season 10. Where, students had the opportunity to ask and get a clear understanding about the competition. Additionally, alumni of previous YGC junior competitions shared their experiences in this session. The call for applications were opened on 15th of April 2021. Followed by a series of workshops for school students to give an overview about web development. This was a 10 hour workshop which covered the basics of creating an e-commerce website with WordPress & Woo Commerce. Along with it, another two workshops were arranged for the mobile development and hardware application. Additionally, mentoring session were arranged for teams who needed guidance and support.

This year, 42 teams participated for the zonal level competition from all around the Northern Province.

Zonal level evaluation

Zonal evaluations were held on the Saturday 26th of June 2021. Despite all the challenges in the form of travel restrictions, closure of schools, lack of internet connectivity and lack of access to hardware the students still managed to work showcase their creativity. That is some the kind of sprit which the younger generation should have and should get appreciated.

31 teams are qualified for the finals which will be held on July 10th, 2021.
